Ebay is an extensive virtual market where buyers and sellers can communicate with each other and bid for items they want or sell items they do not need. Ebay encourages sellers to post items or services that they have up for bid. These items are then given a few days on the Ebay site where buyers can browse through them. Sellers specify the lowest minimum bid they want and can also choose to give a “buy now” price for those who wish to buy the item or service outright. The highest bidder wins the item or service specified on the listing. Sellers generally give a detailed description of the items or services they have up for bidding and usually they give the terms of payment and shipping and handling. If users who browse the site are interested in the item they can email the seller for more specifications or some questions regarding the item or the shipping and handling. Some sellers also include a relevant picture of the item to make the buyers more interested or to give the prospective buyers a view of what is being auctioned off. Ebay has already introduced monitoring your bids via your mobile phone or PDA. The users just need to download a software or program that enables the user to do so and to re-bid or to just monitor the item he has bid on. Ebay has just recently made listing an item easier for Ebay members. The software that provides help for sellers’s convenience is provided by MidProfile Corporation. This allows Ebay users make their own listings and submit these live listing in all of the available selling formats direct from their PDAs or mobile phones. The listing is done by just a single data transmission that immediately comes out in the Ebay site complete with all the details and specifications provided by the seller. The transaction details, text formatting, images, text formatting, presentation and other promotional features in their correct places. Midprofile software is a Java-enabled program that is compatible with Ebay and its many features. It runs in almost all Java-enabled phones and PDAs and it does not require a mini browser to use. All the features are compact and miniaturized to fit most PDAs and mobile phone’s screens. The seller can now monitor all transaction details and bidding status directly from the mobile phone. To be able to use this application, the user needs to have access to an internet connection via wi-fi or other wireless internet coverage. You can use the application even if there is no wireless internet coverage and then save it for transmission later when the wireless internet coverage is available. The sellers can add up to six pictures for integration into their created listings and it would look exactly as it would in a personal computer screen. Sellers on Ebay can also search for item categories and load dynamic transaction information and other specifications or descriptions for Classified Ad Listings, Fixed Price, Store Inventory and Auction-style. |
